The Whiting Way – 37 miles, 4 days

A Pilgrim Way for the Diocese of Clifton from the Cathedral of SS Peter & Paul in Bristol to the site of the martyrdom of Blessed Richard Whiting and the Shrine of Our Lady of Glastonbury.

The Way leaves Bristol over the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge, then through parkland and beside the ring road until it climbs to Dundry. The path then descends to Chew Magna, where the Church of the Sacred Heart is visited. The Way passes on over the Mendips to reach the Church of SS Joseph & Teresa at Wells and Wells Cathedral.

The route continues, following the Monarch’s Way, then over quiet countryside to reach the site of the martyrdom of Blessed Richard Whiting, the last Abbot of Glastonbury, at the spectacular Glastonbury Tor. There is a final descent to reach the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey and the Shrine of Our Lady of Glastonbury in St Mary’s Church.

Discover holy places, and bring your own beliefs.

Pilgrimage by foot is connected with places and landscape, and how those places make you feel. Read about holy places.

At the British Pilgrimage Trust, we believe a pilgrimage should be made on an individual’s own terms. We are founded on the principle that we can all bring our own beliefs to the journey, accessible and welcoming to all.
