The Deeside Way: Aberdeen to Ballater – 41 miles, 4 Days
The River Dee’s name means “Goddess” – what better way to honour her, than to walk by her side? From the great granite city of Aberdeen, to the heart of the Cairngorms, this pilgrimage brings a feast for all the senses – including stunning views, delicate winter gardens, ancient ruined churches, castles, and waterfalls. Wander through the valleys between snow-capped peaks, and discover the many secrets sheltering below the crags. Remember to cast an offering of silver or song into the waters; bringing your presence here into accord with holy traditions reaching back over two-thousand years.
Low-cost hostels along route – Ballater; and across region, Mountain Bothies and Scottish Hostels.
Visit the official Deeside Way website.

Discover holy places, and bring your own beliefs.
Pilgrimage by foot is connected with places and landscape, and how those places make you feel. Read about holy places.
At the British Pilgrimage Trust, we believe a pilgrimage should be made on an individual’s own terms. We are founded on the principle that we can all bring our own beliefs to the journey, accessible and welcoming to all.
