St Mary's Church, Craswall
Unnamed Road, Hereford HR2 0PN
Sanctuary is currently provided in the Nave, replacing the Bell tent that was previously used. The medieval church is divided by an 18th-century wall to create a school room. Behind the church are the remains of a cock-fighting pit. The village is near the source of the River Monnow. Above the village is the Black Hill, the setting for Bruce Chatwin's novel On the Black Hill.
Pilgrims can use the campsite facilities next door to the church. These include a shop and Pizzeria on Fridays. Alternatively pilgrims can treat themselves to an evening meal in the Bulls Head pub down the lane from the church. The Bull’s Head is one of the last unspoiled drover’s inns in England. With a hole-in-the-wall bar and flagstone floors it was recently included in the Michelin Guide as one of the best pubs in Herefordshire 2024.
