Nativity of The Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Madley is one of the finest church buildings in the Golden Valley.
Pilgrim sleepspace is provided in either the church or nearby stables. Breakfast is provided to pilgrims along with tea and coffee. Evening meals are available in two local pubs, the Red Lion (01981 250001) or The Comet (01981 250600) with a Londis offering a selection of groceries.
A pilgrim site since 550AD. St Dubrcius (Dyfrig), later Bishop of Llandaff, was reputedly born here and founded a Christian community. People began to come specially to Madley from far away; they were on a special journey, rather as some people go to Lourdes in France today. It is thought that there was a statue of the Virgin Mary (Jesus' mother) here, which was believed to have special powers. People came to pray, to ask for God's blessing or to be healed from illness.
Items of interest in the church include the crypt with triptych by Ed Kelly, further paintings of the life of St. Dubricious by Ed Kelly in the nave and 16th Century Stained Glass.
