From our ancient hunter-gatherer ancestors, making pilgrimage to sites of special significance has been deeply embedded into humankind across the world for thousands of years. Discover the essence of pilgrimage in our four-hour experience on the North Downs Way with one of our expert guides as part of a small, intimate group.
As we journey together from St Mary’s church, Patrixbourne, you will set your intention before following the footsteps of the pilgrims of old along the Via Francigena, connecting the holy sites of Canterbury to Rome.
Experience ancient pilgrim rites, from circling spiritual places, forgotten songs, and tasting holy waters; to the joy of barefoot walking, wild folklore, kneeling on the pilgrim steps and lighting a candle at Becket’s shrine. Discover new and ancient ways to improve your wellbeing.
Use your complimentary Pilgrim Scrip, a traditional bag, to collect meaningful items which symbolise the stages of your own personal journey, as your expert guides inspire you to find your own resonance with stories of saints and pilgrims.
You will leave this experience having momentarily been drawn into the life of the pilgrim, equipped with special practices to bring you peace and comfort in your everyday life.
100% of profits goes to The British Pilgrimage Trust and the Kent Downs AONB Trust.
90% goes to BPT to support our work to develop and promote pilgrimage routes across Britain, providing free resources to enable anyone to access the benefits of this renewed cultural tradition.
10% goes to the Kent Downs AONB Trust registered charity 1184737 to fund the conservation and enhancement of the Kent Downs AONB landscape and the North Downs Way National Trail. Work that the Kent Downs Trust funds includes improving access to the countryside, supporting biodiversity conservation projects and environmental education awareness projects.
