Earth Pilgrim Course – with Satish Kumar and Peter Owen Jones @Schumacher College
July 18, 2016 - July 22, 2016
This July, the ever-popular and inspiring Earth Pilgrim Course returns to Schumacher College, with two great visionaries and prophets of British pilgrimage – Satish Kumar and Peter Owen Jones.
During this course, Satish will share his thoughts on the importance of bringing soul into the heart of everything we do, and how this can enhance our creativity and our work for sustainability and peace. On Dartmoor, you will visit with Satish some of the landscapes pictured in the Earth Pilgrim documentary – woods, rivers, tors, stone circles, and the open moor – walking together, talking, sitting quietly and reflecting individually and as a group.
Peter Owen Jones will also teach. He is a radical Anglican priest, author, spiritual explorer and TV presenter of Extreme Pilgrim, How to live a simple life, and Around the world in 80 faiths. Peter is also an outspoken advocate of new ways of living our faith, relating to other faiths, and also connecting our spirituality with ecology and the earth. In ‘How to live a simple life’ he follows in the footsteps of St Francis and attempts to live without money, in a very heart-felt attempt to go beyond consumerism. He has also written four books on related themes.
The group will be led on one of the walks by ecologist and author Stephan Harding who will introduce Gaia theory and deep ecology as a way of connecting more deeply with the natural world. The course will also include a walk along a section of the South Devon coast.
The Earth Pilgrim course offers the opportunity to slow down. As we explore some of the beautiful Dartmoor and coastal landscapes, we will enjoy periods of quiet reflection through mindful walking and sitting, as well as sharing some of our thoughts and ideas. Journal writing, drawing, meditation, and experiential exercises will complement discussions with Satish about the place of spirituality in the modern world.
This week aims to help you engage with the natural world and to reconnect. Join Satish Kumar as he shares his reverential approach to nature and leads you on a pilgrimage into the tors, valleys, woodlands and other hidden corners of this beautiful landscape. Participants will stay at Schumacher College, which is just a few miles from Dartmoor.
